LET'S SHUT THE GOVERNMENT DOWN
By: Derek Varsalona
Personally as a disabled American, I am on Medicare. There is a government shutdown that is supposed to affect all of my programs that help support me. While this is going on, I do not live in fear but support the government shutdown. People ask me how I can be so cruel not only to others but also to myself. If we shut down the government, I will still get my SSDI and SSI checks. But I do support stopping the programs for illegal immigrants in this country that have the right to nothing since they are criminals and came in illegally.
Let me ask you this: If someone breaks into your house, do you feed them? Then, if not, why does someone break into the country, and we give them all the benefits that are only meant for legal residents?
President Trump met with Congressional leaders to try to avoid a government shutdown. I understand that no one wants to be blamed. But the government needs to shut down so it can realign itself. President Trump is right to try to shut down the government. The necessary programs will continue to be operational. I will still get my Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security checks for SSD and SSI. What might not be open is the unnecessary government offices. I think that border security will still be active, the military will still work, and the post office will still deliver the mail. Remember, the government wants you to pay your taxes, so taxes are still due on April 15.
There is a bitterness in Congress over the shutdown. The Democrats want the Obamacare subsidies extended. Republicans want to cut spending on social programs. Let us work out a deal. President Trump should give the Democrats a deal. We will kill ObamaCare since that does not work but replace it with Medicare for All. That will cut the spending but make Medicare solvent. Those are my terms for keeping the government open. As always, comments are accepted.
