PRESIDENT TRUMP SHOULD NOT THREATEN NATO
By: Derek Varsalona
President Donald J. Trump threatened NATO, requesting their help to secure the Straits of Hormuz. With oil reaching $105 a barrel, should NATO take his words with caution?
President Trump is wrong to threaten NATO in the way that he did. Over the years, we have seen that President Trump is aggressive in nature. I like his aggressiveness. But what I do not like is the fact that he feels he can threaten another country or international entity in the way that he did. President Trump threatened NATO, claiming that he would remember if NATO did not listen to his demands. In international diplomacy, things are better left unsaid.
President Trump had no right to threaten NATO in the way that he did. Threatening NATO in the way that he did does not help with international relations. Art actually hurts international relations when you threaten your NATO allies. Yes, President Trump will remember if NATO does not help. But the best bet for President Trump is to work with NATO, not threaten the international body.
I agree with President Trump that NATO should secure the Straits of Hormuz. But threatening the international body only hurts America in the long run, especially if that threat comes from the President of the United States. Also, what will happen to NATO if they do not secure the Straight of Hormuz? With oil reaching $105 a barrel this week, America can not take any chances. But America does have a way out of high gas prices. We can drill, baby, drill for oil. As of right now, America is the leading supplier of oil in the world. America should stop shipping so much oil to other nations and focus on obtaining the oil for itself to bring down oil and gasoline prices before the summer rush, when I predict oil will be at its highest retail value.
With the war between Iran and the United States raging in its third week of the illegal war, President Trump can't take any chances. It is illegal since only Congress has the power to declare war, not President Trump. President Trump can bring oil prices down in a simple way. He can shut up and shut his pie hole for once. As always, comments are accepted.
