NEW YORK STATE CLEAN SLATE ACT IS DANGEROUS

Watch out, New Yorkers. New York State is trying to pass a new law called the Clean Slate Act. This act is very dangerous. It would require people with criminal records to have a clean slate when they are interviewed for potential positions in society.
Now, I am all for giving people a second chance. But those second chances come with conditions. A criminal record should not be sealed. What if the criminal was convicted of rape or child molestation and they apply for a job in a daycare or school. I definitely want those people's background check and their criminal records open. We need to know the full scope of the people we hire. If they have a heinous criminal record I do not want them near kids.
The new law will seal criminal records after a waiting period. This is scary. it is about protecting the criminal over the well-being of the general public. The well-being of the general public comes first over a criminal. Yes, the criminal does have rights. However, the criminal's right to privacy does not supersede the public's right to know of the crimes committed when going in for a job interview, especially if that job involves working with kids.
The law also excludes the criminal record and the record becomes clean when the person is no longer on probation. That is wrong, your record is your record and if I was an employer I would want to see the person's criminal record so I know what I am dealing with.
There is some light at the end of the tunnel though. The former convict is still background-checked and fingerprinted. That is a good thing. But that does not leave the fact that they committed a crime diminished.
There is no victimless crime. All crimes have victims. It is wrong that criminal records can only be viewed under certain circumstances. Notice how those certain circumstances are not listed. What is the New York State government trying to hide? This is a horrible law that protects the criminal and leaves the victim or potential victim in danger. As always comments accepted.
