TRUMP ENDS TRADE WAR
By: Derek Varsalona
I will admit it, I was wrong to support the trade war that President Trump went along with. The trade war hurt the economy and, more importantly, it hurt the most vulnerable in society: the disabled, the poor, the unemployed. I position was simple: America is getting screwed on the international scene and we needed to fix our trade imbalance. I still think America is getting screwed royally.
As of Thursday, President Trump made a major announcement that the trade tariffs on nations are easing. The only one that we should have tariffs on is China, and I know China is one of America's biggest trading partners and holds a substantial amount of US Debt. But the fact of the matter is that China still has not paid for bringing the Coronavirus into the world. I do not think they will ever pay.
As of today, tariffs are easing. Maybe this will bring down the inflation that we are seeing, which is easing, but not fast enough for working families. As of right now, China and the United States are in talks on the trade deal. Is this a deal with the devil in China and Trump? I hope not.
The world took its punishment and swallowed the poison pill. That pill was tariffs that President Trump put on the world. Now, it is time to see if President Trump can put peace-making plans to work. I would suggest that President Trump make a trip to the United Nations in a speech to the General Assembly and just say I am sorry for the trade war I caused....and most importantly, mean it.
Now, the world is in the deal-making phase. President Trump is a deal maker, so he says. I think it is one of his best assets. Now, it is time to put your money where your mouth is, Mr. Trump, and show the world not only do you mean business, but you can make a trade deal that benefits not only America but the rest of the world with open arms and not clenched fists. As always, comments are accepted.
