GOVERNMENT DRUNK ON SPENDING
By: Derek Varsalona
It is good to see that Congress is all in agreement come Christmas. But just like you would not give the drunkard the keys to your Rolls Royce on Christmas now should you give the leaders in Congress the keys to the federal banks and opening up the spending and checkbooks. This unchecked spending is going to come at a price that America can not afford in the long run. Republicans claim to be Conservative but they wanted to not be looked at the ones that are shutdown the government during the President Trump news administration. Shame on them for that.
Lawmakers agreed to fund the government and pass the bill of debt onto our grand children. Their massive spending bill comes just before Saint Patricks Day, funding the government until March 14. Talk about March Madness looming with more spending by the federal government.
The fact of the matter is that the Democrats and Republicans were playing a game of chicken. The Republicans choose to blink first. It is really sad to see the Republicans talks a great game of Conservatives but when it icome to their turn to bat the can't put a Conservative piece of legislation on the table. The one person that failed America was Speaker Mike Johnson. He sided with the Democrats giving President Biden a legacy of not shutting the government down.
The bill gives $30 billion to FEMA. I support FEMA's work, but not at the level of $30 billion. Much of those disaster relief efforts should be local-controlled since the local mayors on the ground and other local leaders know better than the federal government what their community needs.
The farm bill, which provides my food stamps, is a joke. The fact of the matter is that the farm bill has a one-year extension on that. So I am safe for my food stamps for one year until I go starving again. I would much rather rely on my food pantry, where I can meet nice people and have a free lunch provided by charity and good-willed people, than the federal government, which is just looking to get re-elected.
Yes, there are hungry people in this country. But no one should have to go hungry. That does not mean you need the government to feed your belly. With the obesity problems and an McDonalds or a Burger King on ever corner it is one wonder that America is over weight me included. If the government wanted to solve the obesity problem healthy food would cost loss. But in order for healthy food to cost loss the government should first stop spending senselessly and let the free market take control. To stop inflation, which this spending bill will only increase inflation the government needs to go on diet and stop spending. As always comments accepted.
