Wake Up New Yorkers, there is no free lunch.  With the free lunch program, I applaud Governor Hochul for making meals available to every student free of charge in school.  My problem with it is this is not of a "free lunch."  Everyone knows, hmmm at least everyone should know that there is no free lunch.  Someone is flipping the bill for those services.  In this case, it is the well-to-do taxpayers who are flipping the bill for the free lunch program.  So parents, please thank you local stockholder on Wall Street for flipping the bill for the free lunch.

For the first time in NYS history, New Yorker students are getting a free lunch, so they say. When something is free or is said to be free, that sends off alarm bells in my head, especially when the free stuff is supplied by the government at the taxpayers' expense. My question is, is this free lunch a health-free lunch? So, are there going to be sweets added to the lunch?    

Also, it is not the government's responsibility to provide a free lunch.  Nor is it the taxpayers.  But since we are at the point with the free lunch let's run with it.  The best way to accommodate the students is to give the students SNAP Benefits cards.  That way the student can learn something about economics, which the school fails to teach.    Giving the student their own SNAP benefit card will allow the student to learn to manage their own food account just like their parents do.  Notice how I said the student should have their own SNAP Benefit Card.  They should not be using their parent's SNAP cards if the family is on welfare.  

With the student having their own SNAP Benefits Card, the student can learn some financial responsibility which is not taught in the public schools.  Having their own SNAP Benefits Card will teach the student to be responsible for spending their own money that was provided by the tax payer.  If the student chooses to spend that SNAP money on the Snack and Soda machine and they run out of money they lose.

The SNAP Benefit Cards should come with as little government control as possible.  The student should be able to make their own decisions on which meals they want.  If they spend the SNAP Money on surgery food and junk food not only do they lose money but they get fat.  That is their responsibility, not the government's.  As always comments accepted.
