IS AI  A THREAT TO THE HUMAN RACE?

Artificial intelligence is here and it seems like there is nothing we can do about it.  I once spoke to a man at my local pool where I worked out who claimed to work in AI. I asked, “Is aI threat to you and will it take away your job?”  He claimed, “ I don’t know.”  The fact of the matter is that AI is taking over the world.  If the Libertarian Party wants to make a mark on society may I suggest putting up an AI candidate for President in 2024.  I can assure you you will get more than 5% of the vote.  But should we embrace AI or be afraid of AI?  The fact of the matter is that AI is here, and it is here to stay. 

As of right now, AI is affecting 40% of the jobs in America.  The biggest hub for the AI industry is San Francisco.  I am still wondering if AI is going to take over all the jobs in San Francisco?  Just think, remember RoboCop?  That was an AI police officer taking over the police force.  

But just think of the benefits we can have with AI.  The fact is we can use AI to compute many military operations if we want to.  That would leave fewer men and women in harm's way in the fields of combat and fewer human lives lost if we use AI soldiers.

Let us talk about AI in college.  I would not be surprised if AI is one day a college professor or elementary school teacher.  The problem with AI is that professors do not know if the term paper was written by the actual student or by AI.   What about journalism?  Who needs a journalist when you have AI write the paper for them in an organized fashion.

AI is stoking tensions in the tech and business communities.  26% of low-income jobs are affected by AI.  You don’t even need to go far to see its effects.  Just go down the street to your local grocer. There is self-checkout which is a form of AI and with self-checkout, there is usually 5 machines where I am means five fewer cashiers, and at least five fewer jobs.  

The fact of the matter is AI is here.  It is here to stay.  The best thing we can do is embrace AI and work with AI. As always comments accepted.
