CLIMATE CHANGE PUSHES YELLOW FEVER TO CANADA
By: Derek Varsalona
Canadian Justin Wood was amongst the stars as an athlete in Canada and excelled in many sports. But Yellow Fever from a tick attack sidelined any dreams of him having future athletic endeavors. The disease prevented him from going to work or playing sports and he suffered academically. He felt helpless no longer being part of society and now having a disability. To make matters worse it took five years for the doctors to diagnose him with an illness.
The cause of Lyme Disease has increased in Canada, by 1000% over the past decade. One of the main drivers of this is climate change. Climate change has caused the disease-carrying mosquitos, carrying Yellow Fever to move northward to Canada due to the warming temperatures in the United States.
Climate change is affecting people in more ways than one. Not only has the climate gotten warmer. Now disease-carrying animals are moving Northward to adapt and adjust to a climate to survive. I would say that climate change is a direct effect of Justin Wood’s disability. As always comments accepted.
